Auralisation

An auralisation is a demonstration of sound for a non-existent situation. For example, you can make auralizations of a planned road - even before it is built. The requirements for accuracy are very high if the auralization is to have high credibility.

On the Video page, you can see an example of auralization of a highway with an animated video.

Create your own auralisation
On the Country road page, you can – based on a number of parameters – create your own auralisations for a country road and then listen to the result. Before you begin, you must Select HRTF profile below, and then calibrate the sound level.

01
Selecting HRTF

To play sounds correctly, the sound must be filtered with a so-called HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function). In fact, all individuals have their own unique HRTF.

From the database below, select the HRTF profile that best suits you. Choose an HRTF where the sound seems to rotate around your head. The sound should start right in front of you and turn clockwise.

Hint: To save time in the first test, you can start with the default BKHATS (Brüel & Kjær Head and Torso Simulator) and return to find the best HTRF for you later on.

02
Calibrate the level of your system

For the sound you want to listen to be realistic, you need to calibrate the sound level of your system (computer and nd headset/loudspeaker) using a speech signal.

You can do this by clicking on "Calibrate" and following the instructions that will be read to you.

The speech (in Danish) will check left channel first and then right channel and the level must sound like a person speaking 1 meter in front of you at “normal” sound level. Repeat the speech , if necessary.
